When people have reached a certain financial level in life such as earning over $40,000 a year, they feel they deserve to move out of the inner city and into the suburbs. Another reason they feel justified in doing so is they want a better education for their children; they believe suburban schools offer more to children than inner city schools do.

Escaping crime, drugs, and poverty lifestyles is another reason people leave the inner city. These are legitimate reasons for leaving the cities but when they get to the suburbs, there are another set of problems to deal with.

Articles of Suburban Interest

If you are Black, the problem of relating to suburban schoolteachers is one problem. Many times Black parents find themselves defending the ability of their children to teachers who assume only the worst. They fight to keep their Black children from being enrolled into special Ed classes and from being subscribed hyperactivity medications.

More than often, new suburban residents have to confront neighbors about the appearance of their homes and deal with the pressure of keeping up the neighborhood standard where home additions, lawn care, and beautification is concerned. Then there is the problem with children and behavior.

Many new suburban residents may have to keep a closer eye on their children since suburban kids have been known to experiment with more trendy type drugs and criminal behavior, and with more radical wardrobes, attitudes, and cultural fads like tattoos, body piercing and the like.
