There seems to be a rise in ignorance from people reposting crackpot theories or idiotic memes they found online and passing it off as truth; and there are a lot of people who believe this foolishness. The sad part is that Black folks are mentally absorbing things that are completely untrue and are applying it to their lives and probably teaching it to their children; but here is one definite way to get real knowledge and bypass all the current lies.
Anything written after 1980, especially after the year 2000 is questionable. With the rise of the Internet, where any and everything is uncensored, you cannot rely on everything you read because anyone can post a video or write an article hatched in fantasy, lies, or from the hell of complete stupidity. Why 1980?
After the election of Ronald Reagan, white conservatives planned a takeover of the media and what information went out to the public and what information did not. Eventually, in 1987 the government eliminated the Fairness Doctrine and all hell broke loose and the public media betrayed the American people.
The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was - in the Commission's view - honest, equitable, and balanced. The FCC eliminated the policy in 1987 and removed the rule that implemented the policy from the Federal Register in August 2011.
The Fairness Doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. Stations were given wide latitude as to how to provide contrasting views: It could be done through news segments, public affairs shows, or editorials. The doctrine did not require equal time for opposing views but required that contrasting viewpoints be presented. The demise of this FCC rule has been considered by some to be a contributing factor for the rising level of party polarization in the United States.
As a result, Fox News and conservative radio came on the scene and began to slant news stories to reflect the conservative side of issues and discredit the progressive side. In other words, racism, conspiracy, and alternative views that challenged mainstream logic took control of the microphone and the concept of scientific research, logic, and economic fairness, diversity, equal and Civil rights began to erode. By the time the Internet gained popularity in the late nineties, information and accurate news took a back seat.
As of today, there are opposing views to every topic and no one can absolutely know the truth on any given subject. Not only are the opposite views so pervasive, but junk science, useless knowledge, blatant lies and fabrications have flooded the underground and mainstream news with questionable theories of life in general.
That is why anything written or documented before the 1980s would be a better source of knowledge. Books, articles, and research studies were published after being reviewed and approved by viable establishments, publishing houses, and news sources that stood on journalistic ethics and truth. Today, anyone can publish a book on anything and claim it as authentic.
Any academic books published before 1980 would reflect a better truth to any topic, be it economics, history, science or social issues. The older the book the better because it will not be tainted with the clutter of junk logic the Internet and many books offer today. People actually studied and researched before they published information and there was a real sense of value for the truth. Today, people do not care about the truth, they only want to gain recognition or fame and some even publish junk logic for the sole purpose of deceiving the public.
Search out news and books from other countries. Study authors from other cultures and nations and seek out information outside of the United States. For Black America, read books by Black authors before 1980 who wrote the truth about America and the world.
Please take the time to go to the library or buy books that reflect what the older society was like. Stop reading and believing in any and every video proclaimed by some man with a foreign name. Learn to read, read, read books, not just skim article titles or soak up images of foolishness posted by some angry, uneducated wannabe.
