Freedom of Speech in the Mouth of Fools
To save Democracy, the first step is to squash propaganda because Democracy means freedom from oppression. Otherwise, this Democracy will become nothing more than an autocratic state supported by a nation of people inundated with lies, untruths, and misinformation, which makes it easier for the autocrats to control the people.
Freedom of speech once meant speaking up for what one believes in; but if that belief is not true nor rational, it is nothing more than the freedom to spew propaganda and lies. This is happening today in American society and as a result, those who make up and repeat the lies are also writing laws based on the lies, and those who believe the lies are given a microphone to repeat, retweet, and broadcast the same.
The Internet, cable news, false and deceiving social media influencers and politicians have taken hold of the minds of gullible people and forced poison down their throats. In order to stop the propaganda, the people who hold power and know the truth must make them who lie prove the lie is true before they can spew it, otherwise, they must be stripped of their platform in order to save the truth and uphold the standard.
As of now, there is no longer a standard for truth to guide the American people - not that there was a strong one before now - but the standard has been erased and any fool can say whatever they want and the rest of the country is expected to stand by in silence and respect the lies and even fight for their right to tell those lies under the banner of free speech.
It is one thing to speak up for what a person believes in but another to blatantly lie and expect others to believe and respect that lie. Too bad the leaders of this country do not understand how to restrain the lies that have poisoned the people. They think voting in numbers will solve the problem but half the country is voting for the lies and the other half are starting to respect those lies.
To save Democracy, the first step is to squash propaganda because Democracy means freedom from oppression. Otherwise, this Democracy will become nothing more than an autocratic and police state supported by a nation of people inundated with lies, untruths, and misinformation, which makes it easier for the autocrats to control the people.
