A state-by-state breakdown of the 2016 Best High Schools rankings. States were graded on a variety of factors based on how they compare to the national average. These included most successfully preparing students for college, based on students participating in and achieving passing scores on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests. States received negative points for high dropout rates and physical violence.
