Authoritarian Politics is uprooting American Democracy

The GOP is slowly and legally stripping away the rights of the people to get what they want out of American Democracy. Though the majority of the people want national voting rights for all, Medicare expansion, and increased pay, this is not what the GOP wants, so they make laws to silence the people when they organize.

In an article from the AP entitled “GOP escalates fight against citizen-led ballot initiatives, Democratic-aligned groups have increasingly used petitions to force public votes on issues that Republican-led legislatures have opposed. In reliably Republican Missouri, for example, voters have approved initiatives to expand Medicaid, raise the minimum wage and legalize medical marijuana.” SOURCE

So, when the people realize that the GOP is not on their side, they organize and circulate petitions to get the things they want on the ballots so everyone can vote for it. But if it is not on the ballot, they cannot vote for it.

(AP) — “Hundreds of thousands of people signed petitions this year backing proposed ballot initiatives to expand voting access, ensure abortion rights and legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona, Arkansas and Michigan.

Yet voters might not get a say because Republican officials or judges have blocked the proposals from the November elections, citing flawed wording, procedural shortcomings or insufficient petition signatures.

At the same time, Republican lawmakers in Arkansas and Arizona have placed constitutional amendments on the ballot proposing to make it harder to approve citizen initiatives in the future.”

The Republicans are making excuses as to why they will not allow the petitioned grievances on the ballot, siting weak arguments like, “they are protecting the integrity of the lawmaking process against well-funded interest groups trying to bend state policies in their favor.”

The “well-funded interest groups” are typically on the side of and donate to wealthy GOP candidates though. This is how they plan to run the country once they take power in all three branches of government. They will strip rights from the people and put into place whatever they believe is best and in the interest of the wealthy class.

“About half the states allow citizen initiatives, in which petition signers can bypass a legislature to place proposed laws or constitutional changes directly before voters. But executive or judicial officials often still have some role in the process, typically by certifying that the ballot wording is clear and accurate and that petition circulators gathered enough valid signatures of registered voters.

In Michigan this past week, two Republican members of the bipartisan Board of State Canvassers blocked initiatives to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and expand opportunities for voting. Each measure had significantly more than the required 425,000 signatures. But GOP board members said the voting measure had unclear wording and the abortion measure was flawed because of spacing problems that scrunched some words together.”

When voters cannot get pass the GOP state legislators, the case goes to the state Supreme Courts, who are padded as right-leaning and can from there deny the people their rights and the things they want. This is how the last president and the judges he appointed are running things.

The Republican policies are unpopular with the majority of the America people, so they have resorted to cheating and strongarming the people of their rights. This will eventually blow up in their faces when the people are brought down to a point of poverty, despair, and frustration. Time will soon expose their plots and schemes.
