So you finally found someone that you want to have children with? Or perhaps it was by mistake? You've decided to start a family with this person? Sure, however, there are a couple of factors to keep in mind. One of those factors is the cost of one child. So, how much money do you and your partner make a year? If it's under 50k then just stop.
Now I know what you're thinking, "He's just being salty, why should I listen to him?" According to a 2010 USDA report, "the average middle-income family will spend roughly $12,000 on child-related expenses in their baby's first year of life. By age two, parents are up to more than $12,500 per year."
According to several finance reports if you have children under the age of 10 then you're averaging about 9k on expenses a year. Now, what if you have three kids under the age of 10? Then you're spending around 27k a year on expenses. Some of you have a whopping total of six children.
Firstly, why? Furthermore that's an average of 54k a year. Wow. Congrats. But let's be honest, most of us are poor. Sorry if I'm being too "pessimistic." The average American makes less than 50 k a year. In fact around 70% of Americans make less than 50k, of that around 50% make less than 30k a year. So most Americans earn around $82 a day. Stunning.
In 2012, the federal government set the poverty line for a family of four at $23,050. The figure is based on food costs - the government identifies how much it should cost to feed a family of four for one year and then multiplies that number by three. Talk about struggling right? But it can be accomplished.
Our parents and grandparents had a lot of children and made it work right? Well back in 1960, the average annual income for a household was $42,576 a year. In 2013, the average annual income barely increased to $44,321 a year. Prices have increased but our annual salary is about the same. The cost of living was cheaper back then so it was possible. You? You can barely afford to live on your own salary, not to mention having an additional three to six mouths to feed. Just stop it already.
However, if you have the money, i.e., earning over 50k a year then go for it. Have those children my friend. To sum things up, don't bring children into the world to suffer in poverty and a lack of resources. It's borderline child endangerment and child cruelty, in my opinion.
