The "Trickle Down" effect is one of white America's favorite misguided theories to believe in, such as trickledown economics; an economic theory that says financial prosperity moves from the top of society to the bottom and everyone eventually shares in the success of the American dream; which is a lie proven by economist decade after decade and lived by millions of America's working poor.
Well the threat of authoritative propaganda and violence ordered from the White House has trickled down into the Richmond, Va., area where Attorney General Mark Herring has "given police more resources to 'keep you safe," according to a recent news broadcast and article from NBC12 television station.
"Herring announcing Friday a new effort to cut down on gang activity and gun violence in Richmond. The $700,000 federal grant will help police target public housing communities and create outreach and crime prevention programs."
This so-called effort is a blatant racist push against the Black community, or "public housing," communities and green light for more police killings of Black people. It is an ignorant, stereotypical misuse of police authority and a clear response to the bigoted dog whistle blown by the Trump administration's push for so-called law and order.
Then the cooning starts. In addition to the fear-mongering and lies of "a whirlwind of violence spreading across Richmond," the television news reporters - taking orders from the apparently racist broadcasting producer - profiled the owner of a black barbershop who spoke about the crime in the surrounding community. Once again, the super-predator playbook of the 1980s was reopened when Hillary Clinton claimed the Black community asked for more policing and used them as an excuse to imprison hundreds of thousands of Black men on hyped up drug charges.
To sweeten the pot, the news team began playing on the sympathy of the viewers by reporting about a 1-year old child who was killed during a domestic dispute. God have mercy on the child, but the use of the child's death was a sure play on the heart strings to gain support for more policing.
Richmond is not the only city with this same back story; there will be more stories like this in many Black communities across the country as the hand of white racism and police brutality continue to kill Black people, and as Governors, Attorney Generals, and police officers take orders from the murderer in chief.
